11 Things you probably didn't know about Vaeda Mann

  • Name: Airaby Vaeda Mann
  • Hometown: Hattiesburg, MS
  • Instagram: @livinlavaedaloca
  • Occupation: Model

It was a pleasure working with you Vaeda, and now that we finished our session I would love to get to know you a little better and give my readers some insights into the life of Airaby Vaeda Mann.

So picture me what the typical life looks like for you.

If I'm feeling strong and capable, I usually kick things off with a morning workout before breakfast. But if I'm feelin a little more like taking it slow and easy, I'll start my day drinking warm lemon water (life changer), loads of coffee, and throwing on some music while I make a big, beautiful breakfast. The good and sometimes crazy thing about modeling is you never really know what each day will hold. Sometimes you have to be on set by 6 A.M, sometimes you get an email and have to be ready for three different castings in two hours, and some days you have absolutely nothing on the agenda, so you take a nap and contemplate your existence. No day is ever really your typical 9-5, and for that I'm very thankful. But I can guarantee each of my days typically involve lots of coffee, roasting veggies, and a little bit of Gilmore Girls on the treadmill 🤘🏼

Sounds like a pretty sweet life to have. So how was it that you ended up being scouted?

I was hired for my very first job when I was 16 years old. I had been working sales at the prom dress store Susans Shoppe throughout all of high school, and one of the sales reps for the dress designer Tony Bowls saw my picture, spoke with Tony, and I was on a plane to Little Rock, Arkansas, to shoot his fall collection a few weeks later! I had been freelance modeling ever since, and then 3 years later that same beautiful sales rep and friend introduced me to a scout with Next Models. I finally took the leap in February, flew straight to Miami after finishing a job in Fort Myers, Florida, and signed with Next Models Miami. The last few months have been a dream come true. :)

Whats been your favorite project you've worked on so far?

Man that's hard, there's always something unique and beautiful about each one! But one of my favorite locations so far was this tricked out gypsy school bus on a farm near Athens, Georgia. We were shooting for a store there, and this bus was covered in all of these different textured curtains and pillows and even had a tiny library in the corner and beads and dream catchers everywhere. It was the coolest dream bus I had ever seen and plus there were free roaming fainting goats all over the farm- that was such a great day 😂

That sounds pretty awesome, I'm not going to lie. But besides hanging out in cozy buses and strutting around in prom dresses what do you enjoy doing on your off days?

I'm pretty bad at off days honestly, I always feel like I need to be doing something. But while I was in miami, I did become a sucker for afternoon naps on the beach while the sun was going down. Or finding a cool local cafe, bringing my book and journal, and hanging out and decompressing for a while.

Well with all that work and lounging, how do you have time to stay in such badass shape?

Staying active is important, but I believe it's so much more about what you put IN to your body. I try to stick to whole, natural foods as much as possible- Mama Nature is looking out for us. Eat pure, eat the rainbow, and your mind and body will thank you :)

Might need to make a trip to the farmers market this weekend now. Since you travel so much for work do you have a certain destination you wish to visit some day?

There are so many places I want to go, but I'd really love to spend time in Australia one day. The coasts, the food, the sunshine, the animals, the accents!

I've never been to Australia myself, but can definitely agree with you that its on my bucket list. Speaking of what are some other things on your list?

  • To one day be on set for a job, taking photos with huge, beautiful, exotic cats and animals... Cuddled with baby cheetahs, lions, tigers, wolves... I would be in absolute heaven on earth.
  • To one day open my own breakfast and brunch cafe
  • To explore Montana, Oregon, and make my way back to Colorado
  • To one day be on Wheel of Fortune
  • I add something new to my bucket list everyday though, these are just a few!

Definitely some good ones, and I can attest to exploring Montana. I lived there briefly and its an amazing area with the kindest people. With all this exploring you'll need some good playlists to keep you company, any recommendations?

My music taste is all over the place depending on my mood. I'm loving Sylvan Esso's new album- Coffee will always be one of my #1's. A little ashamed of how much I love Despacito, too. Rayland Baxter, whose a good friend. But I'm usually listening to any classic rock or Willie Nelson or any music by my daddio Mark Mann, especially when I'm on the road and feeling homesick ❤️

So it seems like you've lived more than most. Has there been anyone in your life that has given you some great advice to keep you going?

It may not have been said to me personally (if only) but in Jimi Hendrix's book Starting at Zero, he wrote a letter to a fan and said "regardless of what other people think about you, just so long as you have your freedom of mind and freedom of speech and thought, don't let nobody turn you on your own thoughts and dreams. Love you forever."

Certain pieces of advice impact us in different ways at certain moments of our lives, and that letter really spoke to me- especially after choosing to move and start working instead of going straight to school. We only have this one life :)

Thats an amazing piece of advise, definitely something to keep in mind. Besides the late great Jimi Hendrix, who else would you say inspire you?

Most definitely my mom- every single day. She's been a social worker for 11 years, and her heart for helping people is seriously incredible. As I get older, my admiration for her grows and grows. She's taught me the importance and magic of simply being kind to everyone you encounter ever since day one, and I'm so thankful that she has.

Thats sweet, I'm sure she's equally proud of you. Well its been a treat chit chatting with you and thank you for sharing a glimpse into your life. I'll let you get on with your day, but just want to ask one final questions. Whats your favorite quote?

So many favorites, but I'll always love "if you can be anything at all, be kind."

Forever 21 Styling

For this shoot I took Vaeda around south beach, Miami. We strolled down a few ally ways and then headed over to South Point to catch the sunset. She was an incredible model to work with, inside and out. She will definitely bring light and laughter to any shoot. The direction of this shoot was a casual summer day out. I decided to go with pieces from Forever 21. They always have such a variety which is amazing when picking up pieces for my photoshoots. As for her hair and makeup we teamed up with Bri Soffa. She's incredible at what she does and always brings an upbeat attitude to shoots. Theres never been a moment where she's not making everyone on set laugh, truly a joy to work with.

I haven't crossed the Grand Canyon, nor have I climbed Mount Everest. I can't say that I have even ever been to the North Pole. Although I have traveled to many distant destinations, and have produced images for myself and for the public view. Telling a story, creating something out of nothing, and producing documentary films -no matter the format- make my heart and mind connect; sharing all my experience online for the world to see is what really drives my passion. Im fond of dogs, and how they always seem to have a smile on their face. I find humor in unthought of places. I haven't won any awards, but I am persistent. I was hip before it was cool to be hip. I believe that community and networking is key to achieve great collaborations with unique and individual people. Lets get to know one another, in fact how about we go climb Mount Everest.
